COL (IL) Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired)

Colonel (IL) Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired), President and Founder of the TAWANI Foundation, has been extensively involved in philanthropic work for over two decades, though her drive to help others and make an impact on communities around her was first instilled earlier in life by the examples set by her parents and other family members.

In 1974, Jennifer enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving until 1977 with the 82nd Airborne Division.  She commissioned in 1979 and served on active duty until 1985 with the 101st Airborne Division and VII Corps Germany.  From 1985 to 2001, she served in the U.S. Army Reserves and Illinois Army National Guard.  She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and subsequently received an honorary promotion to full Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard.

Jennifer is a graduate of U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Infantry Officer Basic and Advance Courses, Tactical Intelligence Officer Course, Combined Arms and Services Course and Chemical and Quartermaster Officer Advanced Courses.  She has a B.A. in History from Loyola University, Chicago.  She was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Norwich University in 2007.

Given her upbringing and expansive military career, her philanthropy grew to encompass support for organizations operating in a wide array of subject matter areas, including support for military organizations and projects related to military history, medical and scientific research in human sexuality and gender identity, cultural and educational institutions, historic preservation, and human rights advocacy.  Through the TAWANI Foundation, the Pritzker Military Foundation, and privately, Jennifer has made significant investments in charitable support to philanthropic initiatives across the nation and internationally.  Her philanthropic work has even taken her as far as Antarctica on several research expeditions with world-renowned astronauts and scientists.

In addition to her role serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of TAWANI Enterprises, Inc., Jennifer devotes significant time to her philanthropic activities.  Along with her active engagement as Founder and Chair of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library, President and Founder of the TAWANI Foundation, and President and Founder of the Pritzker Military Foundation, she also serves as a Governing Member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Visiting Committee to the Library at The University of Chicago and a member of the Leadership Council for the Program in Human Sexuality at the University of Minnesota.  Additionally, she has previously served on the boards of Norwich University (1997-2007), the USO of Illinois (1997-2012), the National Strategy Forum (2000-2013), the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (2001-2007), the Illinois National Guard and Militia Historical Society (1996-2008), and the National Guard Association of Illinois (1994-1995).

In 2016, Jennifer received a number of prestigious awards and honors, including the U.S. Department of Defense Spirit of Hope Award, the Landmarks Illinois Legendary Landmark Award, and the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago’s “Trailblazer” award.

Lew Collens

Lew Collens, President Emeritus of Illinois Institute of Technology, is a Senior Advisor to the attorneys and clients of Charles E. Dobrusin & Associates.  He was the university’s seventh president from 1990 to 2007.  Previously he served 16 years as dean of IIT’s Chicago-Kent College of Law.  Prior to joining the academic world he practiced law in Chicago and Washington, D.C. and co-founded Bar/Bri Educational Publishing Company.

 

Lew Collens

Lew Collens, President Emeritus of Illinois Institute of Technology, is a Senior Advisor to the attorneys and clients of Charles E. Dobrusin & Associates.  He was the university’s seventh president from 1990 to 2007.  Previously he served 16 years as dean of IIT’s Chicago-Kent College of Law.  Prior to joining the academic world he practiced law in Chicago and Washington, D.C. and co-founded Bar/Bri Educational Publishing Company.

Lew currently sits on the boards of Advance Illinois, Auditorium Theater of Roosevelt University, The Civic Federation, J.B. and M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation, Navy Pier, Inc., Rush University, TAWANI Foundation, and WTTW.

Over the course of his career, Lew has served on the boards of more than thirty civic organizations and corporations including: Alion Science and Technology, AMSTED Industries, Colson Group, Dean Foods, American Law Institute, Chicago Bar Foundation, S&C Foundation, Chicago Education Alliance, Partnership for New Communities, Leadership Greater Chicago, Economic Club of Chicago, Association of Independent Technological Universities, National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, The Latin School of Chicago, the Mayor’s Council of Technology Advisors, All Cell Technology, The Civic Consulting Alliance, Chicago Council on Science & Technology, and the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Charles E. Dobrusin

Charles E. Dobrusin is the founder of Charles E. Dobrusin & Associates Ltd., a Chicago law firm serving individuals and families in matters relating to the transfer and preservation of wealth. Charley has over 35 years of experience in the following aspects of trust and tax law:  values-based estate planning; strategic estate and charitable planning; advising and counseling executors, trustees and beneficiaries; resolution of disputes involving trust and estate matters; succession planning for family businesses; and the creation and representation of charitable organizations.

Charles E. Dobrusin

Charles E. Dobrusin is the founder of Charles E. Dobrusin & Associates Ltd., a Chicago law firm serving individuals and families in matters relating to the transfer and preservation of wealth. A native of Boston, Charley graduated from Boston Latin School in 1970 and received a B.A. in Judaic Studies from Brandeis University in 1974.  He graduated from New York University School of Law and was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1979.  He received an M.A. in Judaic Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1976 and rabbinic ordination from the Seminary in 1980. Currently, Charley is a member of the Professional Advisory and Philanthropic Fund Committees of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.  He is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association’s Trust Law Committee, the Planned Giving Committee of the American Technion Society’s Chicago Chapter, the Chicago Estate Planning Council, the Chicago Board of Rabbis and the Rabbinical Assembly.

COL David R. Pelizzon, USA (Retired)

COL David Pelizzon is a retired U.S. Army officer who served almost 30 years on active duty in airborne and special operations units. Since his retirement from active duty in 2003, he has worked as a manufacturing executive in the U.S. and Asia. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and has advanced degrees from Harvard University and the U.S. Naval War College.

Mary F. Parthe joined TAWANI Enterprises Inc. in 2008 and currently serves the dual role of Chief Investment Officer and Chief of Staff. Mary started her career at Merrill Lynch and Co. in 1997 in the Private Wealth Division and eventually established her own book of business.

Mary F. Parthe joined TAWANI Enterprises Inc. in 2008 and currently serves the dual role of Chief Investment Officer and Chief of Staff. Mary started her career at Merrill Lynch and Co. in 1997 in the Private Wealth Division and eventually established her own book of business. Mary has completed the CFM, CFP, insurance license, and CIF programs throughout her career. Mary currently serves on the TAWANI Foundation Board as Secretary and has been a Board Member since 2012. Mary is very involved in everyday operations of TAWANI Enterprises Inc. and TAWANI Foundation, as well as the Pritzker Military Museum & Library, and is grateful for the opportunities.

Mary graduated from Triton Community College with an Associates of Science Degree and Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelors of Finance Degree. Mary enjoys spending her time boxing and focusing on her Foundation, Jordan’s Corner, teaching special needs children fitness and boxing skills.

K. Cruz, Grants Manager

Ms. Cruz became the Executive Assistant at TAWANI Foundation in September 2009 before transitioning into her current role as Grants Manager in January 2014. Her previous experience includes four years as the Executive Assistant to the Managing Directors of Discovery Group Holding Company, a merchant banking firm formerly affiliated with Piper Jaffray that manages private partnerships in highly specialized investment strategies and conducts corporate merger and advisory services.

K. Cruz, Grants Manager

Ms. Cruz became the Executive Assistant at TAWANI Foundation in September 2009 before transitioning into her current role as Grants Manager in January 2014. Her previous experience includes four years as the Executive Assistant to the Managing Directors of Discovery Group Holding Company, a merchant banking firm formerly affiliated with Piper Jaffray that manages private partnerships in highly specialized investment strategies and conducts corporate merger and advisory services. While there she was responsible for the creation and distribution of fundraising presentations and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to investors. She was also instrumental in the design and development of the company’s website, enabling investors and prospective investors to view market updates and historical performance reports for the fund.  Prior to that, she spent three years working as a clerk for The Chicago Community Development Corporation, an Illinois corporation organized for the purpose of acquisition, development, rehabilitation and preservation of existing multifamily affordable housing in the Chicago area.

Laura Biddle Clarke, Special Projects Manager

Laura Biddle Clarke joined TAWANI Foundation in 2013. Most of Laura’s projects focus on grants evaluation, research and reports. She spent 13 years raising support for The Field Museum, initially focusing on corporate sponsorship and increasing in responsibility to serve as Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Laura Biddle Clarke joined TAWANI Foundation in 2013. Most of Laura’s projects focus on grants evaluation, research and reports.

Laura spent 13 years raising support for The Field Museum, initially focusing on corporate sponsorship and increasing in responsibility to serve as Vice President of Institutional Advancement. Areas of expertise include annual and major gifts programs, corporate and foundation grants, capital campaigns, sponsorship, board relations, budgeting and management.

Laura’s career in fundraising began at the Wexner Center for the Arts. She earned her B.A. in Art History from Miami University and her M.A. in Arts Policy and Administration from The Ohio State University.

Ted Mosterd joined TAWANI in August 2015 as the Grants Coordinator and Office Manager. Ted is a seasoned professional with a masters degree from Governors State University. His multiple years of experience in a wide array of fields ranging in Education, Insurance, Health and Fitness, and Financial Services make him a perfect fit for the TAWANI Foundation.
