2010 Highlights
  • The opening of the Naphtali ben Jakov Pritzker American History Wing completes the full renovation of the History Museum begun in 2005.  All the galleries in the Museum, including the Chicago Dioramas Gallery which is also supported by the Tawani Foundation, have now been re-modeled and updated.
  • Located adjacent to the CHM Visitors Center, the Pritzker American History Wing has already become the most popular areas of the Museum.  The Pritzker family immigration story, in particular, is most visitors’ first stop at CHM and an excellent preview for the issues of democracy and freedom which are raised by Facing Freedom.
  • More than 50,000 K-12 students will visit the Pritzker American History Wing during the 2010-11 school year.

2010 is a banner year for the longstanding collaboration between the Tawani Foundation and the Chicago History Museum (CHM), because it will see the entire five-year effort come to fruition.  The dedication of the Naphtali ben Jakov Pritzker American History Wing on July 4th, 2010 was one of the most important events in the Museum’s recent history.  Through the support of Colonel (IL) James N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired) and the Tawani Foundation, CHM visitors are able to explore American history through the story of immigration and through Facing Freedom, an innovative new exhibition on American history designed specifically for middle and high school students.
