2010 Highlights

  1. Annual Meeting of the Meteoritical Society, New York: Nine papers from the Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies, published as abstracts in a special issue of the journal Meteoritics & Planetary Science.
  2. 41st Lunar and Planetary Science Meeting, Houston: Six papers from the Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies, were published as extended abstracts by the Lunar and Planetary Institute, Houston, TX.
  3. Wisconsin Meteorite Fall of April 14, 2010:
    1. Generated strong media coverage for the Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies (Chicago Tribune; New York Times; ABC; NBC; The Weather Channel; local television and radio stations WI, IL, IA; internet).
    2. Four pieces of the meteorite were donated to the Robert A. Pritzker Center
    3. The Robert A. Pritzker Center is part of the research consortium that describes and classifies this fresh meteorite and reports it to the Meteoritical Society
  4. Establishment of the Cosmochemistry Laboratory, Robert A. Pritzker Center
    1. Meteorite and mineral sample preparation for geo- and cosmochemical analysis
    2. Mineral separation: Meteorites, fossil micrometeorites, presolar grains, terrestrial rocks
    3. Training of students and post-doctoral scientists
Thanks to the very generous donation by the Tawani Foundation the active research program in meteoritics at the Field Museum could be resumed this year, and allowed the Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies to have a strong first presence at the two major scientific meetings of the meteoritics and planetary science communities. Dr. Philipp R.
