2010 Highlights
  • Mapped more than 17,000 miles of the 30,000 miles of open rail-trails and other multi-use trails currently in our database
  • Increased the number of registered TrailLink.com users from 8,000 in July 2008 to more than 115,000 as of September 2010, more than doubling the number of registrations in the past year alone.
  • Grown traffic to the site so that we achieved 117,000 unique visitors and 1.4 million page views in a 30 day period (July 2010).  We have now surpassed our original goal of having 100,000 visitors per month by September 2010.
  • Based on our data collection and mapping success, partnered with Google Maps in their March 2010 release of biking directions.  This is just one more way that we are providing trail information to all Americans in rural, suburban, and urban communities nationwide.
Tawani's generous support has helped Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) provide more than 17,000 miles of detailed trail maps and information to the public for free, promoting and encouraging trail use across the country through RTC's trail-finder website, TrailLink.com. Also, through our in-depth GIS records, we were able to partner with Web search engine Google in 2010 as an official content provider for Google Map’s brand-new biking directions functionality. We have shared trail-map data with Google for more than 15,000 miles of rail-trails and other multipurpose pathways. Thanks to Tawani, RTC is making it possible for biking and walking routes to be easily accessible to all Americans as an alternative means of healthy, active transportation.
