United States Military History Digitization Project
  • The Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC) applied for and received a 2006-2007 Program Grant from the Tawani Foundation in the amount of $250,000 payable over two years. The grant was used to fund the Museum’s United States Military History digitization project. This project included cataloging over 600 programs of documentaries, national news programs and radio reports focusing on U.S. military history. MBC shares with the Tawani Foundation the importance of collecting and preserving significant historical radio and television content for scholars and the public.
Funding Report
While it is difficult to ascertain the exact number of viewers of specific content on our website, based on the attached web traffic report, the MBC projects 10,000 daily users --- and they have opened 70,000 audio/video streams during the past four months. Given the significance of the Tawani Military Collection (TMC) ---including Vietnam, World War II, the Gulf and Iraq Wars and the series Victory at Sea-- it certainly would not be an overestimate to suggest that between 30-35% of those visitors experience the TMC on our website.
