The generous support of the Tawani Foundation allows the Pritzker Military Library to grow and develop to meet the core requirements of its mission as a private, non-profit special collections library. The mission of the Pritzker Military Library is to acquire and maintain an accessible collection of materials and develop appropriate programs focusing on the Citizen Soldier in the preservation of democracy.
Tawani Foundation support has helped the Library:
- Grow its collection of books to over 30,000 volumes, which are available for members and through the inter-library loan system.
- Grow its collection of vintage military posters, photographs, and glass plate negatives to nearly 10,000 items.
- Expand its archival holdings to over 130 linear feet of documents, maps, diaries, journals, and records.
- Maintain a growing collection of military-themed documentaries, movies, popular programs, and other offerings, as well as uniforms, artifacts, and other items for students or researchers.
- Create a gallery experience for visitors to learn more about military art, photography or artifacts, in a comfortable setting.
- Reach over 6,000 visitors annually to the library, gallery, and program events.
- Support program outreach though live webcast, archived audio podcasts and webcasts, and a cable television program – a combined projected annual audience of over 4 million.
- Offer continuing education credits to K-12 educators in Illinois, along with adult and student art, writing, and research workshops throughout the year.
